Challenge

Studies have shown that having the head lowered at 20 degrees or more can cause neck pain, and this pain can transfer to other areas such as the knees and back. When surgeons keep their heads in this position during longer surgeries, they are at increased risk of experiencing pain due to poor posture. This problem led to the goal of creating a product that supports CN XI, reduces fatigue during surgery, and improves surgery success rates.

Approach

  • Increase Endurance

  • Less Back Pain

  • Slide On Mobility

Headband

The headband allows the user to rotate their head from side to side in the operating room using a track-like system on the inside, while also helping to prevent them from leaning too far forward.

Support

The neck device at the back provides adjustable support for the user through spring-loaded buttons. The pulley string also helps users maintain proper posture.

Buckle

To make the product adjustable for different users, buckles and adjustable straps are provided for users of different sizes.

Low-Fidelity

With little to no medical or engineering experience, the process of creating this product involved a series of low-fidelity tests, both on paper and digitally. The research phase required studying the human body and reaching out to medical professionals to ask questions about what features would make the product beneficial for them. The product, logo, and 3D environment each went through their own low-fidelity development stages, which ultimately came together in the final design.

Branding and Display

Designed to be your personal Guardian to help maintain good posture, improve endurance, and be quickly accessible to wear.

To support branding and marketing, a booth was designed to provide an immersive experience for users interested in the product. The space includes seating, kiosks where users can explore detailed information about the product, a mannequin display enclosed in a glass case, and a staff member at the front to assist and answer any questions.
